Today, we will be reading The Monkey's Paw by W.W. Jacobs.
In this story, a soldier turns up at the Whites' house with a monkey's paw, which he claims will grant the owner 3 wishes. He seems afraid of it and tries to prevent Mr White from using it. However, Mr White wishes for £200. The following day, he receives the news that his son has been killed in a terrible accident and is given £200 in compensation. His wife, beside herself with grief, uses the monkey's paw to wish her son alive again. Mr White is so worried about his dead son turning up at the house (because his son was crushed in a machine) that he uses the final wish to wish that he does not return.
Read the whole story today and tomorrow, we will discuss a section in detail.
